Tropical springtails are a small (generally 1/16 of an inch) soft bodied insect belonging to the Collembola family. Springtails feed on plants and other materials undergoing decay. Their small size makes them an ideal food source for newly emerged froglets or thumbnail dart frogs. Springtails can also be used to "seed" your vivarium, where they will quickly colonize in the humid environment and provide a tasty snack for your frogs.

Lump Charcoal for Culturing SpringtailsLump hardwood charcoal is great for culturing springtails. The springtails will congregate on the charcoal, allowing for easy removal of springtails. Just pick up a lump of charcoal and gently tap it over the tank to remove springtails.
